The primary responsibility of the surgery technician or assistant is to provide the highest degree of support to the staff surgeons, anesthesia technicians, support staff and animals admitted to the hospitals surgical service. The surgery technician or assistant must excel in interpersonal communication skills and multi-tasking skills. They must be reliable, independent, and able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment while maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude. They should have the ability to recognize the needs of the various patients and staff. They will be involved in the continuous training of new surgery staff members and any visitors to the department. Recovering patients is part of their duties.
